So I recently quit my job to live as a vagabonding hippy traveling the world. So back home in GA jobless and trying to eat enough calories on the 811 lifestyle can be pretty expensive…
BUT TODAY the Universe- the Powers that Be have decided to help me out. Yesterday my mom (who’s only seen dates 2x in her life) told me she thought she saw an open box laying out at our local kroger. This is a regular kroger in a small southern town (not a marketplace which is the only time I’ve seen medjool dates in a kroger before and that was in the city of Lexington). Well needless to say today I went to see what she was talking about, thinking that she had imagined it or I would see a few small containers of deglect nooris Blegh! But lo and behold there they were!!!…A box of beautiful medjools for GET THIS $3.99/lb YEA I KNOW RIGHT!!! So thinking the sign was a mistake leftover from something else that had been sitting there before the dates I turned to the guy stocking behind me and asked how much? No joke they were selling medjools for $3.99 usually they are between $6-8.00 anywhere else.
So I filled my bag with all of the dates left in the box 2lbs and paid $7, asked if they’d be willing to ship in boxes for me and he said “yes”, first I did a little research of my own and called up the co. Kroger had bought them from to see what the price would be– all I can say is apparently Kroger is blackmailing Shieldsdates because it would have cost me around $12/lb to buy straight from shields, geez! Even after I’d explained I’d just bought their dates from kroger for 3.99 but yea.
Called Kroger back up to place my order and since I’d buy bulk they would sell me an 11lb box of dates for $35 so I immediately ordered 3boxes from them and will have enough dates between those and the case of khadrawis I’d ordered earlier this summer to get me through the summer. Do the math I just bought medjool dates for $3.18/lb shipping included—HOLY SHIT AM I STOKED.
All I can say is the power of positive thinking!!!
